I uploaded an image with a width greater than 500px and has gone smoothly and without changing the width of the image. I checked the compatibility and said:

Persits AspJPEG needs to be installed on the server in order for uploaded images to be re-sized.

You first need to enable AspJPEG support by setting the images sizes in the upload settings page. The image then needs to be uploaded using the Add Image window in the RTE Editor.

Also make sure AspJPEG is installed and licensed on the server. Check with your web host.
