    Posted: 30 August 2011 at 5:33pm

I just installed newspad (in fact, I have the newest stable release and the beta beside it.  I like where the beta is going...) and I got everything seeming to work fine from an administrative perspective.  I can create newsletters, change things to be pretty, all that jazz.  It seemed to be going so smoothly...

..Then I tried to create a user.  It seems to work, however, when it sends that activation email I get an internal 500 error.  When I send a test email to whatever account I choose, I get a 500 error.  Anytime Newspad does anything that smells of SMTP something poops out on me.

SMTP is installed, and in the server compatibility page it says that all should be good to go.  Is there something I am missing?

Thanks,

If you could turn of detailed error pages in IIS so you get what the actual error is this would immediately tell us what the issue is.

By this do you mean disable friendly errors?

Yes you would need to disable friendly error messages in your browser, but with IIS 7 you also need to enable ASP to send errors to the browser and change the error handling to enable detailed error messages.

This would then give an detailed error message of what the issue is as well as a line number of where in the code the error is occurring.

Ok, I enabled sending scripts to the browser.  Here's what I get

CDO.Message.1 error '8004020d'

At least one of the From or Sender fields is required, and neither was found.

/newspad/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 242

The error suggests that you have not correctly configured the email settings for NewsPad.

Make sure that you have set all the correct settings including an email address for NewsPad that can send emails from your mail server. If your mail server requires authentication then you also need to include the username and password for the SMTP server.
