With the free hosting you would only be charged if you exceeded your accounts limits, for example if you used more than the 500MB of bandwidth the account has for that month you would be charged for the excess bandwidth that you used.
Although we supply free hosting it is not free for us as it costs us money to supply the service, as we have to pay Microsoft licensing fees, power costs, bandwidth costs, hardware costs, etc. By holding a credit card details for free hosting customers it gives us a level of protection to prevent the service being abused.
We use WorldPay as our payment processor, who are one of the largest online payment providers in the world after PayPal. The reason why there are no limits set is that with most of our customers we do not know the amounts or frequency that they will pay as customers may upgrade to paid accounts, register domains, purchase SSL certificates, add extra databases, add email services, etc. etc.
This type of agreement with WorldPay means that instead of WorldPay taking set amounts at regular intervals we can use our own payment system to notify you of any payments in advanced and take the correct payment on the due date and email you a tax receipt from us for the payment.
By using WorldPay it gives you extra protection that your credit card details are being kept safe by one of the worlds largest payment providers who have been operating since 1989 and process millions of payments everyday. Even we are unable to see your credit card details.
As a UK Limited Company registered with UK Companies House (reg no. 5977755), we have to operate under UK law. You are also protected by your credit card company. If an unauthorised payment is taken from your card you can contact your bank can place a stop on this for the return of your money. This is known as a chargeback, which would be investigated by the credit card company who would contact us regrading the matter.
However, I know from personal experience that being charged incorrectly or for services that you don't want and not being refunded leaves a really bitter taste in your mouth, so ask that if customers do have any billing issues to contact us straight away so that we can resolve the issue.
