Hi

I'm trying to set an email account to forward mail to an AOL address but this is failing with an error message.

Forwarding to non-AOL accounts seems to work fine - is it intended that an AOL address cannot be forwarded to?

Thanks,
John

You can forward to any email address, except for AOL/Netscape email addresses. This is due to AOL's policies on spam and email that is forwarded to AOL.

All email to our network is scanned at our network gateway for spam and viruses. If an email is suspected of being spam it is prefixed with SPAM-LOW, SPAM-MED, and SPAM-HIGH so that you are able to check the emails and create any filters yourself based on these subjects and avoid loosing emails due to false positives.

If forwarding to AOL is permitted then all emails would be forwarded to your AOL/Netscape mailbox. Any that you then mark as spam in your AOL/Netscape mailbox that have been forwarded would be seen as coming from our mail servers and be reported to us to investigate, you would also blacklist your own email address that is forwarding the email and possibly your own domain and our mail servers also.

If AOL block our mail servers due to email being forwarded and then reported as spam then this would affect all customers as all emails from our network to AOL would be blocked. To prevent this we do not allow the forwarding of email to AOL/Netscape mailboxes.
