Topic: Disable logging of IP-addreses Posted: 05 January 2010 at 7:52pm |
PS - Backup the existing file that you intend to change as this was straight off the top of my head

I think so - very quickly so I might need to re-check, but open and edit forum/forum_posts.asp Around line 1323 you should see this:
'Display IP if admin or moderator If blnAdmin OR blnModerator Then Response.Write(" - " & strTxtIP & ": " & strAuthorIP) %> |
Just edit that line to read:
'Display IP if admin or moderator If blnAdmin Then Response.Write(" - " & strTxtIP & ": " & strAuthorIP) %> |
Removing the OR blnModerator That should do it

Is it possible to stop moderators seeing the IP address?

It's a bit against the tide, everyone else is asking for more IP address logging and only yourself wanting to disable it.
I think you are getting a little paranoid regarding IP address logging as it can only be seen by admins and moderators and even if someone else did get an IP address of a user there is little that can be done with it, especially considering most people are on dynamic IP's.

Suggestion for next version: Optional IP-logging.

Not without recoding the forum.
The new_post.asp and edit_post.asp files save the IP address to the database so you would need to edit these files to just leave a blank instead of the real IP.
However, the IP address tool most forum admin find very useful as you can track people who post under multiple accounts to course flame wars, block spammers and bad members, search for posts from a particular IP address, etc.
If an unauthorised person got into your admin account through a weak password them seeing the IP addresses of posters would be the least of your worries, beside which they could not do allot with the IP's anyway.

I want to have them deleted, in case anyone will get unauthorized access to the account.
Possible ?

IP addresses are only displayed to forum admins and moderators. No one else can view the IP address.
